I went into the theater expecting a Madagascar-and-The-Wild disappointment. Call me weird but that’s exactly the situation I was in the moment I decided to choose Over The Hedge over Sentinel. Watching an action flick starring Keifer Sutherland just doesn’t ring a bell for me. I can always watch 24 or something.
Anyway, so I went there expecting a boring movie but as soon as the film started to unravel the wonderful characters and a no non-sense plot, I was happy that my impressions were wrong. Over The Hedge is a great family movie.
The voice talents are great with Bruce Willis as RJ the conniving racoon, Nick Nolte as Vincent the bear, and even Avril Lavigne as Heather the possum. I didn’t know Avril has such a sweet voice, eh.
The story revolves around the importance of honesty and family, the ugliness of gluttony, and the “real gateway to a good life,” which RJ didn’t find in the place he thought he would - over the hedge.
This movie is a must-see. I never expected this one to possess a certain kind of depth that is seldom present in animaton flicks. Again, I am glad I was wrong. Five stars for me.
