Being a Jodie Foster fan, I just cannot let this movie pass by.
When I saw the trailer, I thought it has the same overtones with The Forgotten. I can’t imagine the feeling of suddenly being told that everything you hold dear were all lost, as what Kyle Pratt [Foster] experienced when the plane crew told her that her child, just three hours sleeping beside her in a passenger plane, never set foot on the plane because the child was already dead in the same hospital where her husband lost his breath after a certain terrible incident. Confusion rules over Kyle as she thought about the moments she had with her daughter the night before the flight, the conversations they had in the cab, and the lost and found encounter they had at the airport. This just can’t be true.
Watching Foster getting confused, stunned and angry, made the scenario very real, that I also couldn’t help but get perplexed about the whole situation. Was Kyle just talking to a ghost in the cab, the same way that she talked to her dead husband, the night before the flight too?
Sarsgaard and Bean also played vital roles in making the movie very involving. Sarsgaard’s sudden shift from a concerned US marshall to a cunning highjacker-kidnapper was shocking.
Though I personally believe the movie is very good, I just can’t figure out how in the world did the kidnappers snatch the child from Kelly without being noticed, considering that the girl is situated where many people could have seen such deed. The manifesto and the hospital records, I can concede, but the snatching thing is beyond me. And the last 20 to 30 minutes was not very convincing. As Foster finally proves to all that she was right, that she was in her right mind, and that there indeed was a daughter, the scenes before that are not very well made I must say.
